Climbing Pyramids and Building Strength: Why Simple Training Can Transform Your Health.

Recently, I had the opportunity to go hiking and climb a pyramid — a bucket-list moment filled with awe, history, and a fair share of physical exertion. As I ascended, I couldn't help but notice something surprising: many people around me were struggling. Some were winded, others were hesitant with each step, and more than a few turned back before reaching the top.

This wasn’t a matter of motivation. Everyone was clearly excited to be there. What held them back was physical readiness — or rather, the lack of it. And that’s when it hit me: these challenges aren’t just for athletes or extreme adventurers. With a bit of consistent strength training, everyday people can reclaim the ability to enjoy moments like this with confidence and ease.

Here are the views:

Hierve el Agua

These rock formations resemble cascades of water. This site also features mineral pools where you can swim.

Monte Alban

Was the capital of the Zapotec civilian from around 500 BCE to 800 CE. One of the first largest cities in Mesoamerica.

Strength Training Isn’t Just for Athletes

When we think of hiking or climbing, we often assume cardio is the key. And yes, cardiovascular fitness plays a role, but what I saw on that pyramid told a different story. People weren’t just breathless — they were physically unstable, lacked mobility, and struggled to support their own bodyweight. Strength training is a tool for longevity, freedom, and daily health. You don’t need to lift heavy weights to see benefits — even basic bodyweight exercises done consistently can change how you move, feel, and live.

Here’s how strength training can directly improve your health and daily life:

  • Balance and Stability

    • Exercises such as lunges or step ups can give you the confidence to move with balance. Our balance is something we have to continue practicing or you will lose it. It is something we do not think about in our day to day life, but if you haven’t done single leg work in a while, you will remember if you try to go up or down a pyramid.

  • Joint support and mobility

    • Strength training with full range of motion can allow you to strengthen your joints and move with freedom. We often think strength training only works your muscles, however it works your joints as well. By building more resilient joints, you will be able to use your joints more with less likely or injury or irritation.

  • Confidence

    • Moving with confidence will allow you to move faster , reduce fear and increase independence. Whether you’re walking up stairs, hiking a trail, or trying something new. This reduces fear of falling, getting hurt, or needing help. When you move confidently, others notice—- especially kids, clients, and loved ones. You become a role model for healthy habits and self-care, inspiring there around you to care for their own health and strength.

  • Helps prevent osteoporosis

    • Strength training will strengthen your bones. As we age, out bones naturally become more frail and falls become more dangerous. By exercising, we reduce the chance of breaking our bones if we fall. This is especially important as we age.

  • Healthier Aging

    • After the age of 30 we naturally stat losing muscle mass. This can lead to fraility, balance problems and loss of independece later in life. Strength training slows and even reverses that process. It’s one of the best things you can do to age gracefully and maintain quality of life. By taking care of ourselves, we will be able to give ourselves the opportunity for freedom and independence!
